For the fifth successive year Celton Manx is to sponsor Douglas Borough Council’s public fireworks display.
The event will be held on Friday November 6th, starting at 7.30pm when the Mayor of Douglas, Councillor Sara Hackman, will lead the judging for the Best Guy competition. The awards of £100, £50 and £25 for first, second and third places respectively will be presented later in the month in the Mayor’s parlour at Douglas town hall.
At 7.45pm the fireworks display, set to music, will be fired from a barge moored close by the Douglas war memorial.
Celton Manx executive director Bill Mummery said: ‘The Council’s fireworks display not only attracts local families but also many people from around the island. This makes for a great atmosphere and, with the date set for the Friday, Douglas businesses, especially food and drink outlets, stand to benefit so we are pleased to be sponsoring, once again, what has become one of the capital’s largest and most eagerly awaited community events.’
Regeneration and community committee chairman Councillor John Skinner said: ‘Thanks to generous sponsorship from Celton Manx, the hard work of many Council staff and Manx Radio as our media partner the Douglas fireworks display promises, yet again, to be a hugely popular crowd-pulling event where families can enjoy a spectacular show in a safe and secure environment.’
